Alternator Problems PDF Print E-mail

The 1200 with it's stator and the 1500 with the rotor coil failures make the alternator the weak link of the Goldwing!  I always carry a multimeter and needed it recently when my 1500 suffered an alternator failure.

If you are with another Wing then swap batteries.  Your battery will have enough charge to start the other bike and you can ride until yours cuts out again and swap back!  Pull out all the fuses for everything except engine management and the fuel pump.  Ride where you can stop and not block traffic i.e. in the LH lane of a freeway and avoid roads where there is no escape as the bike will not give you any warning when the battery gives up!  It will get you home!

If you are in Melbourne then City Auto Electrical can repair your alternator.  They are motorbike specialists, located in Coburg, at 15 Irene St, ph. 9350 6677.  It cost $82.50 to repair my rotor coil, (Feb 2001).

In Geelong, Bert Neville of 'Small Coil Rewinds' (03) 5278-8454 or (fax only) (03) 5272-1659 can rewind anything or email This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it .
